Like a mustard seed | 겨자씨처럼

The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed. The mustard seed is the smallest seed you plant in the ground. 32But when you plant this seed, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants. It produces large branches. Even the wild birds can make nests in it and be protected from the sun.”

겨자씨와 같으니, 그것은 땅에 심을 때에는 세상에 있는 어떤 씨보다도 더 작다. 32그러나 심고 나면 자라서, 어떤 풀보다 더 큰 가지들을 뻗어, 공중의 새들이 그 그늘에 깃들일 수 있게 된다.”

Summary

이 겨자씨는 일반적으로 음식으로 쓰이는 씨들.. 콩 같은 것에 비하면 아주 작은 씨인데 이것이 자라면 새들이 앉을 정도로 커질 수 있지요.

겨자나무가 결코 큰 나무는 아니지만 씨앗에 비하면 몇백배 커진 셈이에요.

그리고 창공을 열심히 날 던 새들이 앉아서 쉴 수 있는 가지가 되어주기도 하지요.

These mustard seeds are the seeds that are commonly used as food. They are tiny seeds compared to something like beans, but when they grow, they can grow big enough for birds to sit on. The mustard tree is by no means a big tree, but it is hundreds of times larger than a seed. It also serves as a branch where the birds that flew hard in the sky can sit and rest. 

그리고 겨자씨의 정말 놀라운 점은 또 있어요.

빈 들에 겨자씨가 몇개가 떨어지면, 몇 해만 지나도 그 곳 전체가 노랗게 물들 정도로 겨자 밭이 되어 버린답니다.

And there's another really amazing thing about mustard seeds. If a few mustard seeds fall on an empty field, it turns into a mustard field so that the whole area turns yellow in just a few years.

2,000년 전에 예수님이 오셨을 때

예수님의 제자는 겨우 12명이었어요.

인구의 비율로 보자면 0.0000001% 밖에 되지않는 아주 작은 존재였죠.

2,000 년이 지난 오늘날에는 전세계 인구의 30% 넘는 사람들이 예수님을 믿고 있어요. (300 million times growth)

그 숫자는 2.17 Billions 에 달합니다. 

세계 전체인구가 400 million이었을 때에 70여명에 불과했던 이 사람들이

세상에 겨자씨처럼 뿌려졌고 온 들판을 노랗게 물들이는 겨자가 밭을 이룬 것입니다.

When Jesus came 2,000 years ago, there were only 12 disciples of Jesus. In terms of the proportion of the population, it was only 0.0000001%, a very small existence. Today, 2,000 years later, over 30% of the world's population believe in Jesus. (300 million times growth) That number is 2.17 Billions. When the total population of the world was 400 million, these people, who were only about 70, were sown like mustard seeds in the world and the mustard that dyed the whole field yellow formed a field.

어떤 영화의 이야기에요.

한 선생님이 아이들에게 세상을 아름답게 만들수 있는 방법을 생각해내고 실천해보라는 숙제를 내줬어요.

It's a movie story. A teacher gave the children homework to come up with a way to make the world beautiful and put it into practice.

트레버라는 아이는 진지하게 그 숙제를 고민했죠.

그리고는 생각해 냈어요. 한 사람이 세명에게 이유없는 친절을 베풀고, 고마워하는 사람에게 “당신도 모르는 사람 세명에게 친절을 베풀어주세요.” 라고 부탁을 하는 것이다. 그렇게 하다보면, 금방 세상이 정말 아름다워질 수 있을 것이라는 꿈을 꾸게 되고, 아이는 그것을 실천하기 시작했다.

A kid named Trevor seriously thought about the homework. And then I came up with it. One person is kind to three people for no reason, and one person says to a grateful person, "Be kind to three people you don't even know." is asking for it. By doing so, he soon had a dream that the world could be truly beautiful, and the child began to put it into practice.

그리고, 4개월 만에 전국으로 퍼진 ‘친절베풀기'는 정말 수많은 사람들이 경험하고, 또 다른 이들에게 친절을 베풀기 시작한다. 그렇게 수많은 사람들이 누가 시작한지도 모른채 계속 친절을 주고 받는 아름다운 세상이 된다는 이야기다.

And, after 4 months, 'giving kindness' spread across the country, so many people experience it, and they begin to show kindness to others. It is the story of a beautiful world where so many people continue to give and receive kindness without knowing who started it.

세명에게 친절을 베푸는 것은 쉬운 것은 아닐 수 있지만, 온 세상을 아름답게 만들만큼 대단한 일은 아닐 것이다. 그러나, 겨자씨 같은 한 아이가 시작한 그 일은 정말로 세상을 아름답게 할 수도 있을 것 같다.

It may not be easy to be kind to three people, but it won't be great enough to make the whole world beautiful. But it seems like a mustard seed can really make the world beautiful.

여러분이 하나님이 기뻐하시는 아주 작은 행동을 시작한다면, 그건 그렇게 대단한 일로 여겨지지 않아도 겨자씨 처럼 아주 작고 보잘 것 없어도, 

우리 안에 그 천국이 있으면, 하나님 나라가 우리 안에 있으면,

저와 여러분도 온 세상을 아름답게 변화시키는 사람이 될 수 있어요.

If you start a very small act that pleases God, even if it is not considered a big deal, even if it is as small and insignificant as a mustard seed, if the heaven is in us, if the kingdom of God is in us, you and I will make the whole world beautiful You can be a changer.

하나님이 우리 각자에게 주신 소원이 있나요? 주님이 여러분과 어떤 일을 하고 싶어하시나요?

그것이 지금은 전혀 가능해 보이지 않을 수 있어요. 

그 열두명의 제자가 온 세상을 바꾼다는 상상처럼요. 전혀 가능해 보이지 않죠.

그러나, 하나님은 그 열두명으로 세상을 바꾼 것처럼,

우리도 하나님이 기뻐하시는 한 마디 말, 작은 행동을 통해 세상을 바꿀 수 있어요.

Does God have a wish for each of us? What does the Lord want to do with you? It may not seem possible at all now. It's like imagining that the twelve disciples change the whole world. It doesn't seem possible at all. However, just as God changed the world with those 12 people, we can also change the world through the words and small actions that please God.

하나님 아버지,

우리들은 아직 어려서 대단한 일을 할 수 없을 것 같아요. 하지만 하나님이 원하는 작은 일을 하면 온 세상을 바꿀만한 힘이 있다는 사실을 믿습니다. 우리가 할 수 있는 작은 일, 하나님이 우리와 함께 하고 싶은 일을 잘 발견하고, 잘 따르길 원합니다. 그래서 주님이 만드신 세상이 더 아름다운 곳이 되길 소망합니다.

우리와 함께 세상을 가꾸길 기뻐하시는,

예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다.

Heavenly Father, 

We don't think we can do great things because we are still too young. But we believe that if we do the little things that God wants us to do, we have the power to change the whole world. We want to discover and follow the little things God wants to do with us. So, I hope that the world that the Lord has made becomes a more beautiful place.
