29 신부를 취하는 자는 신랑이나 서서 신랑의 음성을 듣는 친구가 크게 기뻐하나니 나는 이러한 기쁨으로 충만하였노라
30 그는 흥하여야 하겠고 나는 쇠하여야 하리라 하니라

29 The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.
30 He must become greater; I must become less.

여러분은 예수님에게 사촌 형이 있었다는 사실을 알았어요?
Did you know that Jesus had a cousin?
성경에서 세례 요한이라고 부르는 사람이에요.
He is what the Bible calls John the Baptist.
예수님이 아직 세상에 나타나기 전에 엄청나게 많은 사람들이 그에게 찾아왔어요. 그리고 지금까지 잘못을 뉘우치기 위해서 요단강에서 온 몸을 물에 들어갔는데, 그것을 세례라고 부릅니다.
Before Jesus appeared in the world, a huge number of people came to this John. And in order to repent of their sins, John immersed them in the Jordan River that we call baptism.
대부분의 유대 사람들이 바로 이 요한에게 세례를 받았기 때문에, 그를 세례자 요한, 세례 요한이라고 부른 거에요.
Most of the Jews were baptized by this John, so they called him John the Baptist.
그는 이렇게 외쳤어요.
he exclaimed:
“주님의 길을 곧게 하라! 주님이 오실 길을 준비하라!”
“Make straight the way of the Lord! Prepare the way for the Lord to come!”
마치 왕이 행차를 할 때, 그 앞에 길을 곧게 정리하고 준비하듯이
그렇게 그리스도가 올 것을 준비하라는 말이었어요.
As when a king goes on a procession,
People must straighten and prepare the road in front of the king.
That's what I meant to prepare for the coming of Christ.
왕의 가는 길에 뾰족, 뽀족 올라온 것들이 있으면 깎아 내려야하죠.
주님을 만나기 위해서, 높아진 마음은 그렇게 겸손한 마음이 되어야 해요.
이렇게 세례를 받기 위해서는 그렇게 마음이 겸손해야 받을 수 있어요.
If there are any sharp or pointy things on the way to the king,
you have to cut them down.
In order to meet the Lord, an elevated heart must become such a humble heart.
In order to receive baptism like this, you must have such a humble heart.
왕의 앞에 여기저기 움푹 파여진 길은 메워서 단단하고 평평하게 만들어야겠죠.
세례를 받기 위해서는 용기가 필요해요. 잘못한 것들이 생각나서 예수님 앞에 나올 수 없을 것 같은 마음이 들 때, 용기가 필요하죠.
The road dug here and there in front of the king must be filled and made firm and flat.
It takes courage to be baptized. When you think of the things you did wrong and feel like you don’t deserve to come before Jesus, you need courage.
그렇게 세례를 받은 사람들, 주님을 맞기 위해 마음이 바르게 준비된 사람들에게
드디어 그리스도 예수님이 오셨어요.
To those who were baptized in this way, to those whose hearts were rightly prepared to meet the Lord.
Finally, Christ Jesus has come.
그러자, 이제 사람들은 더이상 세례 요한을 찾지 않았어요.
얼마전까지 모두가 요한을 따르던 사람들은 이제 모두 예수님을 따라가 버렸어요. 요한의 친구들은 실망해서 요한에게 물었어요
사람들이 다 떠나지 않게 어떻게 좀 해보라고.
Then, people no longer looked for John the Baptist.
Those who until recently had all followed John have now all followed Jesus. Disappointed, John's friends asked John
How do you make sure people don't leave?
그런데, 요한이 오늘 우리가 본 성경말씀을 한 거에요.
“나는 기쁨이 충만하다! 예수님께 모든 사람이 가는 것이 너무 기쁘다!”
By the way, John spoke the Bible we saw today.
“I am full of joy! I am so happy that everyone goes to Jesus!
여러분은 나를 주목하던 친구들, 선생님이나 부모님이 이제 다른 사람을 칭찬하고 주목하는데 기쁨이 충만할 수 있을까요? 누구라도 속상한 일이에요.
Can you be full of joy when your friends, teachers or parents who used to pay attention to you now praise and pay attention to others?
It's upsetting to anyone.
그런데, 세례 요한은 어떻게 기쁨이 충만했을까요?
But, how was John the Baptist full of joy?
사람들이 그를 주목할 때도 있고, 하지 않을 때도 있지만,
그래도 그는 괜찮았어요.
항상 그에게 큰 관심을 갖고 사랑하시는 하나님을 믿었기 때문이에요.
Sometimes people pay attention to him and sometimes they don't.
But he was fine.
It's because he believed in God who always pays attention to him and loves him.
요한은 항상 기도하며 하나님을 마음으로 만나고 있었기 때문에 괜찮았어요.
This is because John was always praying and meeting God with his heart. So he was fine.
그래서, 우리는 친구에게 좋은 일이 있을 때 기뻐할 수가 있었어요.
친구가 뭔가를 더 잘해도, 더 좋은 것을 갖고 있어도 함께 기뻐할 수 있는 거에요.
So, we can rejoice when good things happen to our friends.
Even if your friend is good at something or has something better, you can be happy together.
1등을 하는 사람보다, 등수와 상관없이 1등한 친구를 축하해주고, 함께 기뻐할 수 있는 사람이 하나님 보시기에는 더 멋진 사람이에요.
In God's eyes, a person who can congratulate a friend and rejoice with them regardless of rank is a better person than first place.
그런 마음이 들때, 서운하고, 축하해주고 싶지 않은 마음이 들 때 기도하세요.
그러면 마음이 새로워질거에요!
When you feel that way, when you feel sad and do not want to congratulate, pray.
Then your mind will be renewed!

Prayer
사랑하는 하나님,
하나님 나라에서는 많은 사람들이 1등을 할 수 있지만, 학교에서나 대회에서 1등은 한명 뿐이고, 주목받는 사람들을 볼 때 속상할 때도 있습니다. 그러나 우리도 세례 요한처럼 그런 때에도 하나님께 기도해서, 1등한 친구들을 진심으로 축하하고 기뻐해줄수 있는 아름다운 마음 주세요. 진짜 1등인 하나님의 아들이 가장 낮은 모습으로 십자가에서 우리를 위해 희생하신 마음을 알게 해주세요. 작은 일들에 욕심을 내지않고, 요한처럼 천국에서 영원한 1등이 되는 우리가 되게 해주세요.
우리를 위해 가장 낮은 자리로 내려오신 우리 주 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다.

Dear God,
In the kingdom of God, many people can win first place, but at school or in competitions, there is only one person, and it is sometimes upsetting to see people in the spotlight. However, like John the Baptist, we pray to God in such times as well, so that we can sincerely congratulate and rejoice with our first placed friend. Please let us know the heart that the Son of God, who is the real number one, sacrificed for us on the cross in the lowest form. Please let us not be greedy about small things, and like John, let us become the eternal number one in heaven.
We pray in the name of our Lord Jesus,
who came down for us to the lowest place.
